FCC’s staff/volunteers and their associates often interact with children and young individuals in their day to day activities. Consequently, prioritizing child protection is key in all of our programs and strategic planning.

Adhering to the principles outlined in Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), CIVS has established a policy affirming the inherent right of all children to be safeguarded against various forms of harm, such as physical or psychological violence, injury, abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or exploitation, which includes protection from sexual abuse.

CIVS acknowledges the fundamental rights of every child to be shielded from harm as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) of 1989, the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children of 1990, and Kenya’s Children Act No. 8 of 2022. Our approach aligns closely with the four core principles of the CRC:

• Non-discrimination
• Devotion to the best interests of the child
• The right to life, survival, and development; and
• Respect for the view of the child

All FCC staff/volunteers are expected to uphold and abide by our Child Protection Policy, which outlines our approach to keeping children safe. FCC promotes awareness of children’s rights among staff and the broader communities we serve, providing clear disclosure and reporting procedures for alleged violations, and conducting due diligence on all potential new hires.

FCC is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment for children. In this regard, we review our policy and good practice annually in compliance with legislation and/or Government guidance changes.
